Today we are proud to announce the official launch of FibreNomic — a new company purpose-built to bring sharper economic intelligence and operator-grade decision support to the telecom industry.

The telecom sector is at an inflection point. Operators face mounting pressure to expand fibre, modernise backhaul, monetise infrastructure and meet escalating connectivity demand — all while making capital decisions that have to defend themselves to boards, lenders and investors. The industry has no shortage of consultants, vendors and integrators. What it has been missing is a partner that combines deep operator experience with the economic discipline that turns ambition into investment-grade decisions.

FibreNomic exists to fill that gap.

Where Fibre Meets Economics. FibreNomic helps operators, infrastructure providers and investors make better infrastructure decisions — combining telecom infrastructure expertise, techno-economic modelling and deployment strategy into a single integrated decision framework.

Led by Imran Abbas, CEO

FibreNomic is led by Imran Abbas, a telecom infrastructure executive with deep expertise in fibre technologies, open access strategy, and MNO backhaul across Africa. Imran brings 20+ years in telecom and infrastructure leadership, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale, complex programmes that span national backbone, metro networks and last-mile rollouts.

Proven experience

Pan-African footprint

Imran's career spans multi-country fibre deployments, national backbone projects and large-scale infrastructure programmes across the African continent. He has worked directly with MTN, Vodacom, Airtel and multiple African operators through Facebook Connectivity, Link Africa and Neotel — giving him a first-hand view of the commercial, technical and political realities that shape real network outcomes.

"At FibreNomic, our purpose is simple — to help operators, infrastructure providers and investors make better infrastructure decisions. The decisions that decide whether a fibre programme creates value or destroys it are made before construction begins. That is where we focus." — Imran Abbas, CEO

What FibreNomic brings to the industry

The company arrives with a deliberately focused proposition. Five capability pillars define what FibreNomic does — and, equally importantly, what it does not do.

1. MNO backhaul expertise

Extensive experience in mobile backhaul planning, transport networks, base station connectivity and core network integration. The economics of microwave-to-fibre migration, traffic growth modelling and site sequencing are at the centre of every operator engagement.

2. Fibre technologies leadership

Deep expertise across FTTH, Metro, Long-Distance, DWDM, OSP/ISP, Microwave Integration and Subsea Cable Landing Stations — covering the full topology stack that modern operators have to plan, build and monetise.

3. Operator engagement

FibreNomic's leadership has worked directly inside operators and infrastructure builders, giving the firm an inside-out view of how decisions actually get made — and how they sometimes go wrong. The result is advice that survives contact with the operator boardroom, not just the slide deck.

4. Strategy & investment

Specialist capability in techno-economic modelling, business cases, CAPEX planning, Open Access strategy and infrastructure-sharing models. Every model is built to be defensible to investment committees, lenders and regulators — not just internally.

5. Pan-African experience

Multi-country fibre deployments, national backbone programmes and large-scale infrastructure rollouts across the continent — bringing context-specific insight to operators serving emerging markets where capital efficiency is non-negotiable.

Four guiding principles

The way FibreNomic works is anchored in four operating principles that show up in every engagement:

Core expertise areas

From day one, FibreNomic delivers across six core capability areas that together cover the full fibre investment lifecycle:

  1. Fibre Network Planning & Design
  2. MNO Backhaul & Transport
  3. DWDM, IP/MPLS & Microwave
  4. FTTH & Last-Mile Solutions
  5. Open Access & Infrastructure Sharing
  6. Techno-Economic Modelling & ROI

Why now

Africa's telecom sector is entering its most capital-intensive decade. Fibre rollouts are accelerating. 5G densification is layering new backhaul demand onto already-stretched transport networks. Open Access models are reshaping how operators co-invest. And infrastructure investors — increasingly active in the sector — are demanding business cases that hold up to first-principles diligence.

Operators that get the next wave of decisions right will compound advantage for the next ten years. Those that do not will find themselves with stranded infrastructure, weak utilisation and IRRs that disappoint shareholders.

FibreNomic launches into that environment with a clear purpose: to make sure those decisions are commercially viable, economically defensible and execution-ready.

Engaging with FibreNomic

The company is open for engagements with operators, infrastructure providers, investors and regulators across Africa and beyond. Two starting points:
